Baked vs Fried: Why baked snacks have an upper hand over fried?

Nothing can match up to the sheer pleasure of biting into that oily and crunchy Bread Pakoda with a cup of tea acting as a companion. Deep fried snacks have a taste that is definitely unbeatable. But consuming too much oily food can lead to various life threatening diseases. On the other hand, baked snacks are much more healthier and nutritious
and have already taken over fried snacks in many households. Let’s have a look over the serious problems one faces with consumption of fried snacks:

Loss of nutrition

When foods are deep fried in oil, high temperatures cause the nutrition in the food to break down and the same gets dissolved in the oil. Baked food keeps the nutritional content in the food intact and hence, keeps
the food healthier, nutritious and tasty.

Harmful to almost every organ

Oil heated in high temperatures create oxidation. Oxidized oils cause many possible health problems including damage to the lungs, kidneys and heart. Palm oil in particular was studied in research published in Plant Foods for Human Nutrition" in 1999 showed oxidized palm oil adversely affected plasma, free fatty acids and an increased risk of high blood pressure, arterial thrombosis and atherosclerosis.

Makes you fat – Unhealthily fat

The oil required for baking when compared to frying is next to nil. Around 25% of oil is absorbed by the food and each tablespoon of oil adds 120 calories and 14 grams of fat to your food. This is a drastic reason for weight gain and please note that this kind of weight gain is not at all healthy as this is the fat depository which was not able to be digested by our system and gradually settles down and becomes a part of our body.

Overloads your Digestive System

Over consumption of deep fried snacks, puts tremendous pressure on our digestive system. When it comes to carbohydrates, fats and proteins, fat is the most slowly digested, and it requires more and more enzymes and digestive juices, like bile and stomach acid, to break it down making the digestive system working more than its capacity, often leading to bloating, nausea and discomfort.

Acne causing agent

Fried food do play a very important role in acne. Although, the effect may not be seen right away, but the skin will take a toll in long term, due to the pattern of eating unhealthy and oily food. Oily food alter hormonal balances and in turn effects gut health, causing acne and oily skin.

Increases the risk of heart diseases

A 2014 study from researchers at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health found that people who consumed fried foods between four and six times per week saw their risk for Type 2 diabetes climb 39%, and their risk for coronary heart disease increase by 23%. According to the Harvard School of Public Health, trans fats are responsible for an estimated 1 out of 5 heart attacks in the United States.

So, it’s high time you switch to baked food over fried. And, the above listed reasons are enough to make a life saving decision, because prevention is always better than cure.
